Editorial Standards
The principles governing sourcing, automation, reviews, conflicts, labeling and accountability at Family Media News.
Effective August 1, 2026 · Last updated August 1, 2026
Accuracy before speed
We seek confirmation from primary documents, direct participants and multiple credible sources. Crime, lawsuits, medical claims and other high-risk subjects require enhanced verification and human editorial judgment.
Automation with human control
Automated systems may discover RSS headlines, identify topics, detect duplicates and prepare internal drafts. Nothing is published automatically. Editors review the source, rewrite independently, check material claims and approve publication. Our audit trail records discovery, review and publication decisions.
Attribution and originality
We credit the originating publisher and link to relevant sources. We do not present another outlet’s expression or reporting as our own. Quotations are limited, clearly marked and attributed. Images require a documented license, permission or reliable public-domain basis.
News, opinion, reviews and sponsored content
We label opinion, analysis, reviews, sponsored material and affiliate relationships so readers can distinguish them from reported news. Editorial judgments are not for sale.
Family and faith coverage
Our mission shapes story selection, not factual standards. Reviews should give parents useful context about age suitability, themes and content without substituting for a family’s judgment. We aim to describe people and disagreements fairly, including views we do not share.
Conflicts and corrections
Contributors should disclose material financial, family, organizational or political conflicts. Significant errors are corrected transparently under our Corrections Policy.
