“Drummer Boy,” a new musical drama set during the American Revolutionary War, is scheduled to open in theaters nationwide Nov. 6, 2026. The PG-13 film brings together a young drummer boy, an enslaved woman and a family divided by war in a story centered on faith, freedom, loss and forgiveness.

The theatrical release has been years in the making for Joel and Luke Smallbone of the Christian pop duo for KING + COUNTRY. The brothers first conceived the project in 2018 as a companion story to their Christmas music project, “A Drummer Boy Christmas.” Development continued through delays associated with the COVID-19 pandemic as they worked on the script, music and story.

The completed film runs 2 hours and 7 minutes. Its Revolutionary War setting places the characters amid the violence and uncertainty surrounding America’s fight for independence. While the larger conflict shapes their circumstances, the story also focuses on strained family relationships and the difficult personal choices made during wartime.

Music plays a central part in connecting those storylines. According to the film’s announced description, it becomes a reminder of the characters’ desire for hope and reconciliation as they experience battle and loss. The film approaches freedom from several perspectives, including national independence, enslavement and the personal work of forgiving someone who has caused pain.
Those themes may give families useful points to discuss after seeing the movie, particularly with older children and teenagers. Because “Drummer Boy” carries a PG-13 rating and depicts people living through war, parents should consult the film information available through Angel and make their own viewing decision based on each child’s age and sensitivity. The rating itself advises that some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
The film is currently expected to have a theatrical window from Nov. 6 through Nov. 19, although screenings will depend on participating theaters and local availability. Moviegoers can use the official “Drummer Boy” page on Angel’s website to search for theaters, showtimes and seats. Listings can change, so families planning to attend should confirm the time and location before traveling.
A related giveaway from 107.1 KSLT offers listeners and readers a chance to win one of five pairs of tickets. The entry period opens Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, and closes Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, at 11:59:59 p.m. Mountain Time. No purchase is required, and five winners will be selected at random from eligible entries.
Each winner will receive two ticket redemption codes, with each code covering one ticket. Only one winning pair may be awarded per household address. The codes have no cash value, cannot be transferred or exchanged for cash, and remain subject to the availability and redemption requirements of Angel Studios and participating theaters.

Winners will be notified using the contact information submitted with their entries. They can redeem their codes through Angel’s “Drummer Boy” ticket and showtime page by locating a participating Angel Partnering Theater, choosing an available screening and seat, and entering the code during checkout. Lost, stolen, expired or unused codes cannot be replaced except when required by the issuer or applicable law.
Confirmed participating Golden Ticket Cinemas locations include Rapid City, South Dakota; Dickinson, North Dakota; and Scottsbluff, Nebraska. Choosing a preferred city on an entry does not guarantee that a screening, seat or showtime will be available there. Theater participation and schedules may vary throughout the release period.
The odds of winning will depend on the number of eligible entries received. KSLT may verify eligibility and disqualify entries that do not comply with the station’s contest rules. The promotion is sponsored by 107.1 KSLT; Angel Studios and Golden Ticket Cinemas are not sponsors of or responsible for administering the giveaway unless otherwise stated. The contest is void where prohibited, and additional station eligibility rules may apply.
For families interested in a historical drama shaped by Christian themes and original music, “Drummer Boy” offers a story that looks at both the public cost of war and its effects inside homes and relationships. Its Nov. 6 arrival will mark the end of an eight-year development process and the beginning of a limited theatrical run. Families hoping to attend, whether through the giveaway or by purchasing tickets, should check local listings as the opening date approaches.
